Welcome to my latest blog about LinkedIn, the professional network  connecting businesses around the globe. Lets start with some stats according to press. LinkedIn:

LinkedIn operates the world’s largest professional network on the Internet with more than 332 million members in over 200 countries and territories.

  • Professionals are signing up to join LinkedIn at a rate of more than two new members per second.
  • In Q3 2014, 75% of new members came to LinkedIn from outside the United States.
  • There are over 39 million students and recent college graduates on LinkedIn. These future up and comers to the world of business and enterprise are in fact LinkedIn’s fastest-growing demographic.

So we have gathered that LinkedIn is an important platform for business people, but they also employ it to acquire much more than just a job, such as: 1.Groups:

According to Mavsocial, If you are planning to make the most of LinkedIn for generating leads, joining groups is a must for you. It is perhaps the most important and effective way of promoting your brand and obtaining leads for your business. The attraction behind joining groups is that it allows you to interact with people who may not even be part of your LinkedIn network. You can communicate with all those who are members in your group, regardless of whether or not you are directly connected to them on LinkedIn. Listen up – this is where the tricky part comes in! Since you are allowed to join a limited number of groups (about fifty), make sure you join the ones that you think will provide maximum benefit to your business. 2.Boost sales :

According to The Hub Comms, 50% of LinkedIn users report they are much likely to buy from a company they’ve engaged with on LinkedIn, with 80% reporting they were open to connecting with companies on the platform, unlike Facebook and Twitter. 3.Utilise your company page Recently, LinkedIn introduced company pages — an easy way to provide additional details about your business. As you update your Products & Services page, consider including special offers for those loyal people who visit and recommend your LinkedIn company page to others. 4.LinkedIn Analytics:

Company Page admins have access to LinkedIn Analytics, which provides insights into the most engaging posts, the demographics of followers, and also performance of competitor brands’ pages. This allows companies to best manage their page and know what kind of posts attract more attention to them, and help them target their audience in a more efficient and effective manner.

So let’s get too it, here are the 10 top tips from a budding businessman :

1. KNOW WHAT YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE:The first tip is to know what exactly you wish to achieve by using Twitter to boost your company. You have to sell your business but you also need to start with a purpose in mind and strategically decide how you intend to increase engagement on Twitter. Are you going to use Twitter to sell, provide customer service, build relationships or to push your brand? Having a clear vision helps you to plan for the future and keeps your eye on the ball!

2.KEEP IT SIMPLE : According to Dick Costolo who has been at the helm of Twitter Inc. since 2010 in an article in the Wall Street Journal online, he states that “because of the 140 character constraint, users have created this remarkable language that allows them to communicate among groups of people in that 140 characters. But that remarkable language is super hard to understand for people just coming in.”

3.KEENLY LISTEN TO YOUR AUDIENCE : : Actively and keenly listening to your audience puts you in a better position to speak to them in a way that makes them care more and want to engage with you. It is empirical to listen out for what they are saying about other brands and competitors and use that knowledge to gain a competitive advantage.

4.DELIVER VALUE TO YOUR AUDIENCE: An article on Social media examiner indicated that “the more value you offer, the more the community seeks you out”, which is a very true and useful piece of information going forward for your business. It shows you care about your audience, listen to their feedback and their needs and deliver that to them.

5.BE RELIABLE, PERSONAL AND CONVINCING:

Talk to your Twitter audience the reliable http://bit.ly/1ykjQcdway you would talk with people in real life, so that you portray that you are an approachable person just like them and not simply a faceless organisation out for itself. A good way to portray that you’re as approachable as possible is to share your perspectives and thoughts with your audience so that they can relate and empathise with you.

6.DEVELOP YOUR OWN ACCENT:This is all about the voice you have through the Twitter platform and the personality you reveal. If your voice is consistent and unique, this will inspire active dialogue from your audience. The image below from social media explorer amplifies what kind of social media brand voice could best boost your company’s audience.

7.HAVE DISCUSSIONS WITH PEOPLE :Twitter’s unique structure is built around dialogue – so take advantage of it! Twitter isn’t about advertising, it’s about conversation, so talk about the things that are of interest and are relevant to your followers to keep them engaged.

8. “THINK BEFORE YOU INK (TWEET)”:

Its a big world out there and by posting something on the internet you are speaking to the whole wide world. All it takes is one person to spot something that could be misconstrued and interpreted in a negative and damaging way. Misleading screenshots and reposts can harm your business, just like tabloids twist things to defame certain individuals. In terms of negative, unfavourable comments about your company, taking a restaurant for example, if a customer severely criticises the food or a meal, the worst thing you can do is to reply straight away because you may be angry and say something rash that you soon regret.

9. GIVE YOUR TWEETS A HELPING HAND:  Use added media such as images or short videos to support your tweets and attract people’s attention because images have colour and people will want to know what’s in video’s. Secondly hash tags help your tweets show upmore easily in searches.

10.TRACK PROGRESS, EVALUATE AND EVOLVE:

Use additional media such as images or short videos to support your tweets and attract people’s attention. Images have vibrant colours and people will be intrigued to know the videos contents, assuming the caption is captivating in some way. Also use hash tags! These help boost your tweets, making them show up more often and more easily in searches.

So there are my ten tips, I hope they will help you run your business and capture those valuable customers! I end on a video.

Facebook – Playing by Their Rules Matters

Rule Book http://bit.ly/1yrQCaa

If we are owners or are running a small or medium sized business, what better way is there to advertise than on the worldwide global platform of Facebook. It’s free, easy to use and even with limited financial resources it had the power to reach a large target audience.

Elaine Whitfield discusses why its never too late to use Facebook as a massive selling opportunity including:

  • Facebook captures 1 in every 11 internet visits.
  • Facebook is responsible for 1 out of every 5 page views.

Facebook Rules

But  it must be taken into account that by using Facebook, we must play by their rules and under their regulations to advertise your company. Below we can see some of the basic rules that must be complied with when setting up a Facebook account.

Facebook announced that sponsored stories will become history after April 9th 2014 as disclosed by We are Social. From that day onwards, existing campaigns remained but you could no longer create new campaigns.

A Facebook spokesperson on inside Facebook addressed these changes and claimed :

“As announced in June of last year, we’re bringing the best of sponsored stories – social context– to all ads. Since this update makes sponsored stories redundant, we will no longer offer them as a standalone ad unit for marketers. Social context will continue to appear with all ads where eligible. Our social advertising honours the audience that people choose, so nobody will see information in social context for an ad that they couldn’t already see.”

So who wants to get their Facebook ads approved ? –  why not just follow these simple guidelines as in this video.

So what if you break the Facebook rules ?

Long story short, Facebook will shut down business pages with no prior warning if you go against their business regulations, which means that in an instance you could lose your standing history and connection to customers and followers. You wouldn’t want that now, would you ?

Finally to conclude Kristen Luke said in Investment News that:

” For small businesses with tight marketing budgets, losing a cost-effective marketing tool like Facebook will be a shock. While Facebook likely still has value as part of your overall marketing strategy, it’s essential to pay attention to changes and adapt your strategy for maximum effectiveness.”

Hope this helps.

The Future of Social Media Marketing is Mobile

So who wants to know what social media marketing is ?

Waking up in the morning, what’s the first thing most of us do with a smartphone compatible with internet  ? We check our smartphones for updates on our Facebook, Twitter, Instagram accounts, whatever our kick may be, to see what’s new in the world (or if we have received any notifications on our mobile phones, to bear witness to our popularity (or lack of!).

According to Simon Kemp on “We are social“, in Ireland alone, we spend an average of 1 hour and 40 minutes a day on social media which, according to my calculations means that statistically we could spend approximately 608 hours a year!

We are Social Stats

The future of social media marketing is undoubtedly mobile. Once again according to Simon Kemp on “We are social”, he says that Ireland itself has 2.4 million active Facebook users, a staggering statistic which adds up to almost half the Irish nation spending 240,000,000 precious minutes on Facebook per day. This in turn shows that the world is such a rapidly moving environment and we are contactable 24/7. Nobody seems to want “me-time” anymore these days!

An amazing statistic which cannot go without mentioning is that there are officially more mobile devices than people in the world as explained in this link. Mind blowing isn’t it? How could any company look past utilising this mobile marketing to an ever growing audience out there online?!
